Career History

• Studied Psychology at Southampton University and MSc Business Psychology at The University of Wales in Cardiff.
• Started career with Hay Group in 1991 with clients including Sony, Bank of Ireland and Whitbread. A great start to my career working with talented mentors.
• Moved into a training and development role with Orange shortly after launch. Again, a great experience with great people – especially all our work in translating a strong external brand into the internal environment.
• In 1997, my partner and I travelled the world before starting a family. We quit work, packed our bags and spent a fantastic year backpacking around the world.
• Returned to the UK and worked with Cable and Wireless in an M&A/change management role as part of a team acquiring and integrating internet businesses across Europe.
• Became a dad in 2001 and took some time off work to look after our young son.
• Set up my own consultancy in 2002 to maintain a good work-life balance with a young family and do something that played to my strengths.
• The business has grown each year since 2002 with new clients and a wider network of associates. We became a limited company in 2007. Over 90% of our work is repeat business and we deliberately keep a small, focused client list to ensure that we can offer the right quality of service.

Outside Work

• I’m always involved in community projects, applying some of my business skills to other contexts.
• I have worked as a mentor to disadvantaged children in Bristol through the ‘Big Brother, Big Sister’ scheme, ran the Parent-Teachers Association at my kid’s primary school and I’m currently a parent governor at Redland Green School in Bristol. I’ve also worked as a mentor with ‘Working Knowledge’ to support the transition from education into the world of work.
• I provided support for a number of years to the ‘Just My Job’ charity in rural South Africa, providing training, support and funding to disadvantaged young people - with the goal of giving them a stake in the business and developing them into young entrepreneurs.
• When I’m not working, you’ll find me as often as possible on a big Cornish beach, whatever the weather, with friends and family.
• Other interests include food, photography, technology, music, art, current affairs, architecture and travel.

The Wider Team

I have a network of associates and colleagues. Some bring extensive HR experience in assessment, development and so on. Others bring a wider range of talents including programme management, knowledge management, hospitality and events, creative design agencies, multimedia experts, brand gurus and much much more!
